Meet the CTS Team – Mike Wielebski – 3rd Line Technical Services Consultant

In this first blog of our Meet the Team series, we spoke to one of our 3rd Line Technical Services Consultants, Mike Wielebski about his time at CTS and what he gets up to outside of work when he’s not building and maintaining platforms.

“I have been at CTS for nearly 3 years starting off as a 2nd Line Engineer, progressing through to 3rd Line and acting as Technical Lead for the Service Desk. My role involves managing high level technical queries which come through the escalation process. The learning curve has been steep but enjoyable and rewarding, working at CTS has enabled me to upskill on core aspects of my technical knowledge and to gain skills in new tech and services which I now apply on a daily basis.

Day to day my job can involve anything from dealing with end user connectivity issues, firewall queries, CTS user queries with local infrastructure, all the way through to leading high priority incidents and being involved with the Professional Services Teams performing client EOS upgrades to environments as well as implementation of new services purchases through CTS.

CTS has changed massively since my initial start, our training platforms are continuously being developed to offer us the best training possible, but also the environment in which we work has evolved as we’ve grown. There has always been a focus on rewarding staff who go above and beyond in their roles in our quarterly reward and recognition programme and there has always been a great team spirit across the business which was solidified with the new office refit and the collaboration of teams between the different departments.

As a senior member of the Service Desk, one of my primary functions in the role is to provide relevant and accurate support and help to the junior members of the teams. Making myself available as a point of contact for any queries which may arise is something which I strive to do in all aspects of the job. Where possible I take time to sit with, and guide engineers through the more difficult issues which come through the support portal and always try to pass on the knowledge to engineers in other teams to help them upskill and make their roles easier. This also has the added benefit of giving them the grounding for progressing up through the teams for future progression in their own roles.

I have already made huge progress at CTS but my aim doesn’t stop where I am now, I am always eager to pick up anything new and have my sights set on progressing through to the Professional Services/Cloud Team where I will be able to continue to develop my technical knowledge and understanding of new/old technology and continue to apply it to provide a highly skilled service for clients.

In summary working at CTS has been an enjoyable journey on which I have continued to develop my skills and can look back on almost 3 years of continual development day to day, this also would not have been possible without the great work and dedication from my colleagues which have made CTS what it is today. We are all a close bunch of engineers who always find the time to help each other and away from work make the time to be able to go out on social events to strengthen the bond between us all.

I am also looking forward to getting my teeth into some Azure training in the near future provided by CTS with the view to gaining my Azure Associate and then expanding on that as I progress.

When I’m not in work, I can normally be found in the great outdoors. Although I had to stop jumping following a bike accident I am still a fully qualified licensed skydiver with over 200 jumps logged, including FS1 (formation skydiving). I love to get out on my motorbike when I can get time between my busy schedule to get out and blow the cobwebs away. I am also a PADI advanced diver with deep diver certification (amongst other diving qualifications); again with my busy schedule I struggle to find the time although I have dived on numerous wrecks around the UK. I’m also a keen mountaineer with numerous mountains and routes in the UK crossed off my list.”
